Coffee House Tour – Day 1

After headlining my first festival at Sofest13 (Omg! The crowd were amazing) I managed to get 5 hours of sleep before driving to London where I met @danielloughlin who is playing keys and acoustic with me on the tour. We loaded the bus with Dans gear and nearly drove off with his cat, who had made herself comfy in the back! I cracked a joke at this point – who can guess it? Winner gets a Ben Goddard Coffee Coaster!

9 hours later we rock up in Scotland. I’ve only been once before and that was a while back, but it’s exactly how I remembered it… Breathtaking landscapes and a lot of grey!

So it’s a hotel and an Indian take away for the first night. Enjoy the video 🙂 Tomorrow we play our first show for the Coffee House Tour at The university of St Andrews 🙂

Awesome Gig supporting Rufus Stone at The Brook, Southampton

Ben Goddard & The Heartbeats @ The Brook

Playing The Brook has always been a huge ambition of mine and when the legendary Rufus Stone offered me a support, I was over the moon! The gig had sold 300 tickets in advance and with an expected walk up of another 100 – the band and I were in for our biggest indoor gig yet.

The sound check was smooth. I had in ear monitoring so I could have my own mix of instruments straight into my ears. This means I can hear myself sing which makes pitching more accurate and I could turn the level up or down using a receiver on my belt… like listening to an ipod with your music playing. Remember those big speakers are pointed towards you in the crowd. The band and I hear something entirely different!

We played an upbeat set which was brilliantly received by a buzzing crowd. It was great to meet and greet new and loyal fans afterwards too.

I’d like to thank my talented band The Heartbeats, Rufus Stone and most importantly you guys for turning up and supporting live music.

Ben x

Ben Goddard… from breaking down to breaking records.

Every time Ben thinks about his music and his journey to fullfil his lifetime ambition, he is filled with equal amounts of excitement, determination and fear.Ben-Goddard-young-guitarist

From a very early age I have been passionate about music and since the age of eleven I have dedicated all of my time to music.

After leaving secondary school with quite good grades, Ben was advised to take Chemistry, Math’s, Biology and Business but found it all too overwhelming.

I tired so hard but just couldn’t cope with the workload and huge pressure from the college to excel… I just wasn’t happy.  Although I turned to the guitar and songwriting even that couldn’t take my mind off the wrong path I felt I was on.  Eventually I had a panic attack (I well thought I was dying) and broke down and from that very moment, I started to build myself back up again.

From that moment, Ben didn’t return to his college subjects but instead left his usual life behind him and began to study contemporary music and business in Guildford. Read more

“My time in the studio”… Ben Goddard

After releasing the EP Belief in May 2012 I was eager to crack on with the next record. Possibly a bit to eager… but nevertheless I booked some studio time with Engineer & Producer Geoff Swan for late July and early August. We recorded 6 songs. Mike Breach on drums, Dan Woodcock on bass and of course Dan Loughlin on guitar.

Ben Goddard RehearsalListening back to a professional recording is probably one of the most rewarding things you can do as a band and as a writer it’s great to finally hear your ideas on a record. It’s not always an easy process though…

Rehearsal to support Ben Ottewell from Gomez

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Ben Goddard & The Heartbeats rehearsalToday I met up with the band for our penultimate rehearsal ahead of our main support show with Ben Ottewell from Gomez @ The Joiners on the 26th Nov 2012.

We’re working on a semi acoustic set of about 7 tunes for a filmed live session in Dec and we’ll be trying it out at any gigs before hand.

We’ve got Cajon, Bongos, shakers, tambourine, acoustics, bass, electric and 4 vocals. It sounds fresh, tight and really different.

What was so pleasing for me is how we’re gelling as a relatively new band. It’s so important to have fun doing what you love. I cant wait to take everything to the stage.
